All Bodies Are Beautiful!
If you've been following me for a while, you may already know that I am a graduate of Brooke Castillo's Life Coach School as a Certified Life and Weight Coach. I got into coaching after experiencing the profound transformation coaching had on me personally, part of which was specifically related to my health and fitness goals - including weight loss.
Regaining control of and changing my thoughts and beliefs were instrumental in my transformation. Not only did this thought work allow me to take control of my results in the gym and in the kitchen, but it also incredibly impacted my mindset towards myself....my love towards myself. And with that came an increased sense of confidence and gentler, more positive feelings and emotions about my body.
However, it wasn't until recently that body positivity began trending in the way we're seeing it today. Body positivity is rooted in the belief that all human beings should have a positive body image, while also challenging the ways society views and presents the physical body. This movement is completely inclusive of all bodies, regardless of gender, size, weight, age, ability, appearance.....you get the idea.
It's a welcome change compared to the impossible-feeling standards of beauty and attractiveness that we as a society have been used to, and is especially critical in our digital age of social media. We follow celebrities and influencers who often have seemingly unlimited funds and full teams behind them to make sure they're always putting their best face forward, and the constant consumption of these images can intensify existing insecurities with the way we view ourselves.
Now, we're even seeing those same celebrities and influencers move away from the heavily doctored and misleading images to join in on the Body Positivity movement, including refusing to photoshop images and men sounding off to close the gender gap within the topic (check out Jonathan Van Ness' interview on the Allure Podcast about body positivity for men here).
Recently, I caught up with The Healthy, (a Reader's Digest website focused on health and wellness) to talk about the importance of our role models sending out messages of body positivity to help counter-balance all of the other messages we receive that inform us of the opposite. Click the button below to check out the interview, complete with 13 Body-Positive quotes from some of our favorite celebs to remind us that all bodies are beautiful!
If this is an area you're struggling with, I invite you to reach out to schedule a complimentary consultation. Together, we can equip you with the tools and mindset you need to bring your health and fitness goals to fruition while truly loving yourself each step of the way!
