How to Finish Your Tasks in a Fun Way

There are inevitably a few tasks on our to-do list that we avoid. Perhaps it is a large project that requires a bit of research, analysis, and hard work, that we keep putting off……Why do we do this? Because our brain likes to do what is easy and fun first.

We are motivated to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and remain efficient, so taking on a hard or new project can bring up difficult emotions, so we avoid the task. Worse yet, many of us feel guilty about putting off these tasks and engage in bitter self-attack and a destructive pattern emerges.

Often times we approach time management with a lot of perfectionism and overschedule ourselves, so if we give ourselves permission to slow down and re-evaluate it allows us to think more creativity to come through.

What has really helped me and my clients is to create a list of all the things you are putting off and then meet yourself with grace, curiosity, and give yourself permission to avoid them. Tell yourself that what you actually need is some time to come up with a more pleasurable way to do the task or more information to get it done.

If I have to to-do items in front of me that I have now given myself permission to avoid in order to get more information, I ask myself:

How could I do this in a more fun/enjoyable way?

Should I do this project alone, or should I invite someone else to do it with me or for me?

Do I really want to do this task, or can I let it go?

Is there a better way to do this?

This line of questioning invites our imagination to come on board and find that you are able to invite more fun into the process and will more likely to get to work. I encourage you to look at your to-do list this week spend some time with the items you have been avoiding and ask the questions above.

If you want to finish your tasks in a fun way, I invite you to schedule a call with me. I'd be pleased to support you because I've certainly been through it.
