Learn When to Add Pull-back Goals to Have a Balanced Life

A new month, a new moon, and a new season is upon us.

I have been using this as a time to reflect on the month of May. I also encourage my clients to start with the celebrations, what worked, then move to maybe what didn’t, and set some intentions for June.

The more I coach high-achieving clients I am very struck by their hustle mentality and the propensity to create big, challenging, growth-oriented goals. This of course is amazing but for many of my clients, we have been adding a pull-back goal.

Apull-back goal is setting the intention to stop doing something or to pull back and be more present. At first, this can seem strange because we are so used to creating those growth-oriented goals, but my clients have really found so much fulfilment and JOY from adding the pull-back ones.

Some other ideas for pull-back goals can be:

  • Stop scrolling on the phone mindlessly

  • Roll your shoulders back and take 3 deep breaths several times a day

  • Take a 20-minute nap

  • Sit in stillness for 10 minutes every morning

  • Slow stretches once a day

  • Smile more

I know what you are thinking, these may sound mindless, boring, and unproductive. However, they genuinely balance our busy lifestyles. Yes, many of us could benefit from setting some big audacious goals, but I bet most of us could also lean back and enjoy our lives a whole heck of a lot more.

I invite you to set a pull-back intention for June and see what happens. It really has made such a powerful difference in my life and in the lives of my high-performing clients. Lastly, don’t forget to celebrate all that you did, didn’t do, and what you received in May.

If you are ready to achieve some more inner peace this summer and want to explore the possibility of working with me 1:1 or in a small group container, please reach out here.

Have a great week everyone!
