Moving from Hustle Mode to Peace

Let's talk about the hustle culture and how our society glorifies and encourages it and what is the opposite.

The definition of hustle:

verb

force (someone) to move hurriedly or unceremoniously in a specified direction.

"they hustled him into the back of a horse-drawn wagon"

INFORMAL•NORTH AMERICAN

obtain by forceful action or persuasion.

"the brothers headed to New York to try and hustle a record deal"

noun

busy movement and activity.

In deep diving into our culture, it's interesting to note that the opposite of hustle is PEACE.

Now, there are many times when hustling can serve us; however, if it goes on for extended periods, that's when we start to see the shadows. When we're constantly hustling, stress hormones get released, and long-term, this does not serve our health. And, while we're moving along to the "next thing," we're not present with our feelings, thoughts, or spiritual interests because we're just so focused on To Do List and producing results. We then, often, burn out because we do not know how to prioritize the flow of slowing down. That is where we miss out on fulfillment, joy, happiness, and from the definition, peace.

So, what can you do if you're stuck in hustle mode?

The first step is Awareness. Use the stress of the hustle to become aware of this pattern.

Next, start taking inventory of the things that are important to you. Intentionally put those items on your calendar. Then see if your schedule matches up with those, which often doesn't, so you'll need to prioritize those things that are highest on your inventory list. Be sure to include sleep and hydration. It’s best if you rest as hard as you work.
