The rearview mirror is small for a reason

So many of my new clients these past few weeks walk in feeling a bit torn. On one hand, they are excited to be coached as many of them have never worked with a Life and Weight Loss Coach before and are really curious about the process. But when they sit down and tell the story of the journey with weight loss and weight gain, they become discouraged. The thoughts usually go something like, “I have never been able to keep weight off permanently, so I am not sure I will be able to again.” Their smile fades, shoulders sink down, and frustration sets in. What I offer my clients and you readers now, is to not go to your past for evidence of what you can do in the future. If we did this consistently, we wouldn’t get far. Yes, you can learn from the past, but you shouldn’t be tied to it. Your past consists of old thought patterns that lead to similar feelings, actions, and results. If you have been struggling with an issue for many years, it means that you have been thinking the same thoughts that has led to a chain of events that has gotten you to this same old place.

So here are some steps to help you create something new...The first step is to be aware of the thoughts that you currently have that have been ultimately leading you to the same results in your life. If you are one of my clients, we would be walking through several thought models to uncover beliefs that are keeping you stuck. Secondly, you need to decide, very deliberately, what result you DO want in your life. Get dreamy and excited about a new outcome you want to attain.

Lastly, it is important to recognize that you will have to think NEW THOUGHTS to get you the feelings and actions to take you to the new result. This is no easy task, BUT it’s totally worth it in the end.Our brains are built to be efficient, but sometimes they confuse efficiency with laziness. It is much easier for our brain to think a thought that it has thought a thousand times before. When creating the new outcome, we have to train our brain to think deliberately about the new goal in a way that supports the desired result. If your brain is anything like mine, it will fight you. Tension will emerge, and you will want to give up and go back to the old way. Remember that the old way, gets you the old result. It is a deliberate process that takes time, effort, and practice. This is where hiring a coach like me can be so critical to success. New goals require future focus, not past focus.

I love this quote I found on Pinetrest/Word Porn: “There’s a reason the rearview mirror is so small and the windshield is so big. Where you’re headed is much more important than what you’ve left behind.”

If you need some assistance getting those future focused goals, don’t hesitate to reach out for a complimentary mini-session, I offer 3 spots a month. Grab yours here.
