Rethinking Dreadful Thoughts blog by Life Coach, Melanie Shmois

Here are some things I used to think the only option to feel about them was dread, upset, and stress around:

  • My period/cycle

  • Monday mornings

  • Work

  • My boss

  • Difficult conversations

  • The number on the scale

  • Breakups

It is so easy to buy into societal thoughts around these situations, but what I have integrated through years of coaching is that there are so many more options available to think and feel about things in our life.

What if we thought instead that our cycle was something to celebrate, a sign of our womanhood, the ability to reproduce if we choose, a sacred cycle? What if we loved what we did for work and how we showed up inside it every day? Not to say there are no moments of stress, but what if, most of the time, we found a way to look forward to the work? What if difficult conversations brought us closer to the other human being across the chair or closer to ourselves and our boundaries?

What if we genuinely anchored into the knowing that the number on the scale is just a number? Accepting that it reflects so much more than body fat and has nothing to do with our self-worth, just information about muscle mass, water, and other organs. What if we found a way to grow on the other side of a breakup, whether with a friend or romantic partner? This may allow more freedom and opportunity to create more connection with yourself and opportunities for others to come into your life.

Thought work, embodiment work, and energetics have helped me uncover more lavish, luscious, and empowering thoughts about life situations. I invite you to do the same. Ask yourself: What else is available for me to think about this situation? Get creative and be willing to go against the grain, believing in something new and hopefully more fun!
