Enjoying the Beauty of Transitions
This an interesting time in the mid-west, weather-wise- transitioning from winter to spring. The sunny 70+ degree days that revert to snowy days and back again have had me strongly consider how I and many of my clients navigate smaller transitions throughout a day.
At some moments in my daily life, I realize that I have been rushing from one part of my day to another, without allowing any transition to take place. For example, after a full day of seeing clients virtually or in person, I have a tendency to frantically pick up my phone and scan for missed texts, emails, phone calls, and without taking a breath, I jump into response mode. Then I run and jump in the car, sometimes in a rushed way, and run right into the house then hustle to my home life with little to no consideration of having any transition time.
Do you ever feel that way? It’s like everything is going so fast that there is no time to pause. I know I’m not alone in this has and I have been considering the cost of not building in this transition time.
One negative aspect is not fully receiving any pleasure that I am engaging in. I am not savoring the food that I’m eating, I am not enjoying any beverage that I am drinking, I am not fully present for any of it. What a bummer, huh?
Secondly, rushing all around increases your chances of missing things, making mistakes, and just being more stressed out. At the moment it feels like rushing will make you more productive, but really it just leaves you feeling depleted in the long run.
Instead, I am working on being very intentional with transitions and building in more time to do what feels good in the in-between. Even building in an extra 10-15 minutes to roll your shoulders back, take some deep breaths and consider how you want to think, feel, and act in your next endeavor that can make a world of difference.
This week, I invite you to join me in building extra time in between tasks and changes in your day.
✨ Schedule a breather after you eat lunch and resume your workday.
✨ Take a few minutes to breathe and set your intentions before your go into a big meeting.
✨ Take 10 minutes to ground yourself before you rush off into your car to go home.
Just like the seasons take time to change completely over, you can take some time in between changes in your day to engage in something grounding. I hope you find that you are able to tap into more pleasure and experience less stress throughout your day.
Have a great week everyone. I have 2 spots left for individual coaching clients in April, please reach out if you would like to hear more.
